NCP reinstates Mahin Sarkar in party a month and a half after expulsion

Desk Report:

The National Citizens Party (NCP) had temporarily expelled Mahin Sarkar for running for the post of General Secretary (GS) from an independent panel in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections ‘without taking permission’ from the party’s top leaders. The NCP has reinstated the expelled joint member secretary to the party after a month and a half.

The NCP released a letter on Friday night stating that Mahin Sarkar’s expulsion order has been revoked and he has been reinstated in his previous post.

The letter signed by the party’s Joint Member Secretary (Office) Saleh Uddin Sifat said, “On the orders of NCP convener Nahid Islam and member secretary Akhtar Hossain, the expulsion order of Mahin Sarkar has been revoked and he has been reinstated in his position and responsibilities (Joint Member Secretary, Central Convening Committee, Jatiya Nagorik Party-NCP).”

Mahin Sarkar posted the letter on social media Facebook last night and said, “Insha Allah, I will properly fulfill the responsibility entrusted to me.”

The NCP had announced on August 18 that due to “serious breach of party discipline,” Joint Member Secretary Mahin Sarkar was expelled from his position and responsibilities until further orders on the orders of convener Nahid Islam and member secretary Akhtar Hossain. Mahin did not “take permission” from Nahid Islam and Akhtar Hossain before announcing his candidacy.

However, four days before the vote in the DUCSU elections on September 9, Mahin supported Abu Baker Majumder, the GS candidate of the anti-discrimination student parliament panel. The GS candidate of the integrated student parliament panel urged his supporters to vote for Abu Baker.
