Chief Advisor to address UN General Assembly today

Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus will address the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Friday. The session is scheduled to begin at 9 am local time in New York. The Principal Advisor will be the 10th speaker of the day.

In his speech, the Principal Advisor is expected to highlight the reform activities undertaken by the interim government, the aspiration for a mass uprising in July 2024, the pledge to hold free and fair elections in February 2026, the trial of the July massacre and the Rohingya crisis.

At a briefing on Thursday, the Principal Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said that Professor Yunus will inform the world community about the reform activities of the interim government and the progress of the country’s economic recovery in the last 14 months. The government’s initiatives to ensure a democratic transition will also be important in the speech.

The Press Secretary said that the main message will be that the Principal Advisor will convey to the world that the national elections will be held by February 15 next year. The election will be free, fair, peaceful, credible and festive.
