Israeli attack in Yemen claims to have killed many Houthi members

Desk Report:

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have again attacked Yemeni territory. They claim that more than a dozen Houthi members were killed in the attack. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz made the announcement in a statement on social media X.

According to a report by Qatari media outlet Al-Jazeera, the attack targeted Houthi installations in Yemen’s capital, Sa’ana, on Thursday. An army spokesman said that the IDF targeted the so-called “military headquarters” of the Houthi rebels and several centers of their security and intelligence departments. Dozens of warplanes and air support units were used in the operation.

However, the Houthis are calling the Israeli information about casualties incorrect. According to their information, two people were killed in the attack. Many more—48 people—were injured.

According to the report by Al-Jazeera, Houthi leader Abdel-Malik al-Houthi was speaking on television at the time of the attack. In his speech, he said that the United States is overwhelmingly supporting Israel’s brutal aggression and genocide in Gaza. They have also vetoed a ceasefire proposal at the United Nations General Assembly. According to him, this position of the United States is encouraging Israel to continue its crimes.

Reuters reported, citing residents of Sanaa, that the attack damaged the southern and western parts of the capital. Locals said that several residential buildings were also destroyed in the attack.

Many civilians have been killed in Israeli attacks in Yemen before. Earlier this month, at least 40 people were killed in airstrikes in Sanaa and the northern province of Al-Jawf, including journalists and children.

Since the start of the war in Gaza, the Houthi rebels have been loudly protesting the Israeli aggression. They are regularly launching drone and missile attacks on Israel and the Red Sea. They say the attack is being carried out in solidarity with the Palestinians and that the operation will not stop unless there is a permanent ceasefire.
