Desk Report:
While the UN General Assembly is discussing an end to the war in Gaza, Israel is still carrying out brutal atrocities there. Israel carried out a brutal attack overnight on Wednesday. At least 85 Palestinians were killed in the attack on Wednesday, more than double the number killed yesterday.
According to a report by Qatari media outlet Al Jazeera, an airstrike on Al-Ahli Stadium in the Nuseirat refugee camp in Gaza last night killed at least 12 people. Seven of them were women and two children. The stadium was being used as a temporary shelter for displaced families.
Najwa, a woman who fled Gaza City, told Al Jazeera, “We left with what we had. We have nothing else. We are terrified.” “We can’t afford the transportation costs, we can’t even bring the supplies.”
The United Nations has warned that Israeli forces are “instilling fear and terror” in Gaza City and forcing thousands of people to flee. However, Israeli army chief Eyal Zamir has claimed that Palestinians are being sent south “for their safety.” Zamir said that “most people have already left Gaza City” and that troops will “advance into the city systematically and gradually.”
But a UN commission of inquiry has rejected this claim outright. The commission’s report said that Israel’s real goal is to establish permanent control over Gaza and ensure a Jewish majority in the occupied West Bank and inside Israel.
At least 65,419 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since the war began on October 7 last year. Many more bodies are feared buried under the rubble. Another 167,160 people have been injured.
