Goat case: Matiur and Imran tell their story in court

Desk Report:

National Board of Revenue (NBR) member Matiur Rahman and Sadiq Agro Chairman Imran Hossain, who are in the spotlight in the goat case in the corruption case, chatted in the court docket. This scene unfolded when they were brought before the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge and Senior Special Judge Court on Wednesday.

The two were presented in the court docket at the same time. At this time, Matiur Rahman started talking to the lawyers. Later, Matiur and Imran sat on the bench placed in the docket. They saw each other and chatted. They were seen talking with smiles for about 10 minutes.

However, the court rejected the bail application of NBR member Matiur Rahman. Sadiq Agro Chairman Imran Hossain, who is in the spotlight in the same case, was shown arrested in a new case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge and Senior Special Judge Court Judge Md. Sabbir Faiz gave a separate order on Wednesday.

The accused were produced in court from jail. On behalf of Matiur Rahman, his lawyer Wahiduzzaman Liton applied for bail. After the hearing, the court rejected the application.

It is worth noting that a goat from Sadiq Agro was discussed during Eid-ul-Azha in 2024. Various scandals came out in the case of that goat bought for 15 lakh taka. Criticism started across the country. That year, on Eid-ul-Adha, Mushfiqur Rahman alias Ifat, son of the then NBR member Matiur Rahman, bought a ‘high-breed’ goat for 15 lakh taka (initial price) from Imran’s Sadiq Agro and went viral on social media. In this incident, the corruption of Matiur Rahman and his family came to the fore.
