150 recovered while searching for stolen mobile phone in Chittagong, 3 arrested

While searching for a stolen mobile phone in Chittagong, the Detective Branch (DB) has recovered about 150 more mobile phones and two DSLR cameras. Three members of the gang of thieves were arrested during this time.

The operation was conducted in the city’s Kotwali Old Railway Station and Chaitanya Goli area on Thursday night.

The arrested persons are Sohel Mia (33), Abdul Hakim Prakash Rakib (27) and Md. Yasin (20). They are from Kishoreganj, Sandwip and Feni districts of Chittagong.

In this regard, Mohammad Abu Bakar Siddique, Deputy Commissioner (Port Zone) of the City Detective Branch (Port), said that on September 14, a person complained to the DB (Port) about the theft of a mobile phone from his house. His phone was stolen about a month ago.

At that time, a sub-inspector of the DB was assigned to recover the stolen mobile phone. Later, after identifying the location of the phone using various information technologies, Sohel Mia was arrested from a mobile shop in Kotwali’s Hawkers Market Alley.

Later, based on the information obtained during his interrogation, two more people were arrested, and 148 mobile phones of different brands, including iPhones, and two DSLR cameras were recovered.

The DB chief also said that the arrested accused have been involved with members of various mobile theft gangs for a long time. He said that efforts are underway to catch the remaining members of the gang.
